Dassian supports two critical sub-segments within the Life Sciences Industry which are Pharmaceutical Research and Development (R&D) and Biomedical Engineering/Research.  Pharmaceutical R&D may be sponsored by outside agencies and organizations as well as funded through internal investment capital. Biomedical Engineering/Research may be supported by both outside funding and internal investment. Customer or agency sponsored R&D for this industry generally span multiple years and are often managed as a complex project to assure adherence to demanding contractual requirements, while also providing critical and detailed project and managerial accounting business information to manage within funding levels.

Clients in this segment primarily face challenges associated with performing customer project/contract work while identifying and adapting to changing customer requirements and risks as they manage to plan margin targets. In order to achieve these requirements, customers in this segment demand highly integrated project management systems aligned with detailed managerial accounting/job costing systems to deliver valid forecasts and full cost transparency for the duration of each contract. Often these customer contracts mandate complex invoicing requirements that include retentions, incentives and cost/risk sharing type arrangements which all require complex contract/project accounting and billing systems. These systems allow the service provider to invoice weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to recover incurred costs and fees associated with executing the contract. Customers in this segment frequently manage contracts for various public entities including contracts for state and local municipalities. These contracts require their suppliers to collect and invoice detailed “Actual” costs incurred in accordance with detailed definitions related to how such actual costs are collected and managed. Customers require these advanced system capabilities unique to this industry to be fully integrated with their foundational ERP system to assure timely, accurate and complete business information to support their needs to manage complex long-term contracts.

The integrated Dassian Solution portfolio is organized and described by four major business solution pillars - all of which extend and industrialize the SAP ERP digital core platform.
